Description

NGC 6868 is a Elliptical Galaxy located in the constellation of Telescopium. Its distance from Earth is 111,219,324.79 light years. It has an apparant magnitude of 9.22 and a Size of 3'04 x 02'23 arcminutes and is the dominant galaxy in the rich Telescopium Galaxy Cluster. Xray observations with Chandra telescope suggest that NGC 6868 along with  the second brigntest galaxy in this field NGC 6861 to the right , are each the dominant galaxies in a galaxy subgroup about to merge.

The beautiful spiral galaxy NGC 6870 of magnitude 11.76 is just above NGC 6868.

Not very deep but at 3 minutes the extra dithered subs  provides a happy balance when trying to extract detail which is often improved by lowering the brightness of the galaxies themselves so any extra exposure time may well pull fainter background galaxies, but exacerbate local light pollution issues and may not provide any more information on the dominant objects in thes field.

Of course under a darker sky and with a lot more time I would happily go deeper.
